“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” starring Gene Wilder, will be showing at the Peterborough Community Theatre on Monday, Sept. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
In honor of the recent passing of Wilder, this family classic has been added to the theater’s Labor Day weekend lineup.
The film, based on Roald Dahl’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” was released in 1971. This summer marks the 45th anniversary of the film. Wilder’s acceptance of the part was contingent on performing the scene where the audience first sees Willy Wonka. He struggles to maneuver himself out of the Wonka Factory, walking slowly with a cane, stops, and then suddenly falls into a forward somersault.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this classic movie on the big screen, especially for those that have never seen it or haven’t seen it in a long time,” said Carol Nelson, owner of Peterborough Community Theatre.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, $8 for students, and $7 for children 12 and under.
