The town of Jaffrey is working to plan out all major town expenses over the next six years.
In order to get a handle on the town’s wants and needs relative to large scale projects and expenditures, a Capital Improvements Plan Committee has been created.
The committee will analyze department head requests and make recommendations to the town’s Planning Board.
“We asked our department heads to be creative and lay out all capital projects as if resources weren’t an issue,” said Town Manager Dave Caron. “The prime responsibility of the committee is to review and prioritize these expenses within the current realm of possibilities.”
For example, the capital improvements plan proposed by town department heads has a $6.08 million bond for road repairs, a number Caron described as the “perfect scenario.”
The committee has met twice already, with a third meeting coming next month. Most recently, the committee met on Wednesday to discuss the DPW recommendations.
While no votes or recommendations have been made, the committee worked to see if there were ways to move around DPW capital expenses or reduce the cost of some of the items.
In the coming weeks, the committee will look at these recommendations to determine which projects should take priority and how much money should be devoted to things like road reconstruction.
Caron said the Planning Board will vote on the committee’s recommendations after they have been made. Following the vote, the Planning Board will present the plan to the Select Board.
