The Hampshire 100 bike race returns to Greenfield’s Oak Park this weekend. The annual endurance race features a variety of events on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s events

5K Run – 4:30 p.m.

There will be an open men’s and open women’s class for award recognition. Competitors will start on the hard-packed dirt running oval at Oak Park, then weave in and out of woods trails, grassy areas, and beneath large pines. No hills, no remote aid stations, no significant technicals, no pavement on this 3-lap course.

Short Track Mountain Bike Race – 5:30 p.m.

The short track mountain bike event that will be run on nearly the same course as the cyclocross competition, with just a few modifications. There are two classes — an Open Men and an Open Women, each planned as 6 laps in length.

Kids Bike Race — 6:15 p.m.

For the youngest of riders (under age 12), there will be a chance to ride and “compete” on an appropriately modified course. The specific course elements will be determined just prior to the start, and will be based upon the number, age, and abilities of the entrants.

No entry fee charged for this event, but participants must register prior to the start. Entries accepted only at the venue on Saturday, from 2 to 6 p.m.. Parent or legal guardian must be present at registration.

Cyclocross Training Race — 6:40 p.m.

August means it’s almost CX season, and this training race will give you a test of how well you are prepped to hit your fall schedule of events.

As a training race, there will be no formal ability designations in force. There are two classes — an Open Men and an Open Women, each planned as 40 minutes in length.

Sunday’s events

50 K and 100 K Runs — 5:30 a.m.

This year’s course will be very similar to last year’s. The 50 K loop passes through three towns (100 K runners do 2 laps.) The 50 and 100 kilometer trail run will travel over much of the same, although not identical, trails that have become so popular for the endurance mountain bike event, with significant stretches reserved solely for trail runners.

Hampshire 100 Endurance Bike Race — 6:45 a.m.

A true endurance event. Have you got what it takes to make it to the finish line?

Building on the course changes of last year, this year’s course will be similar, but include some significant refinements to the second half of the course. Some of the singletrack will be replaced with more endurance-friendly doubletrack. Still plenty of challenges and changes of terrain for all — all in support of promoting a healthy living style by offering a quality competitive endurance event.

Using a 33 mile loop format, the 10th edition of the event will offer a 100-mile, a 100-kilometer, and a 50-kilometer option. A team competition will also be featured.

All racers are generally expected to pick up their racer packet on Saturday, Aug. 20, between the hours of 2 – 9 p.m., at the start/finish venue at Oak Park. There may be an opportunity for Sunday morning pick-up for those that cannot get to the venue on Saturday without undue hardship. This is packet pick-up only. No new registrations will be allowed on Sunday morning. Participants must pick up their own packets. Photo ID is required. If you are under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must also be present.
