A Jaffrey man has been indicted on assault charges stemming from a car accident in which a Rindge couple was severely injured.
Ty Newman, 23, is charged with second degree assault and vehicular assault and was recently indicted by the Cheshire County Superior Court. He is due to be arraigned Thursday (today).
Newman is alleged to have knowingly consumed a medication that causes drowsiness and drove his motor vehicle, which resulted in a serious accident that sent Brian Bishoff and Elizabeth Marshall to the hospital. The pair live in Rindge.
State Police were called to Route 124 near Frost Hill Road in Marlborough on Nov. 2 at 5:03 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle accident. An investigation revealed that a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Newman was traveling westbound he crossed the centerline and struck Marshall and Bishoffโs 2009 Honda Fit head-on.ย
Marshall had to be flown by DHART to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with a broken sternum,ย ribs,ย legs,ย arm, and a spine injury.ย Bishoff was transported to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene with a broken sternum and ribs.
Newman was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Centerย with non-life threatening injuries.
He was later charged with aggravated DWI, a charge that was dropped on Feb. 10.ย
Indictments are not an indicator of guilt or innocence, but show that a grand jury found there was enough evidence of a crime to bring the case to trial.
