Francestown’s Board of Selectmen met Monday, July 25, to discuss the town’s past and future.

The meeting’s biggest draw was discussing rehabilitation of the Town Hall, now 215 years old.

Grant writing specialist Barbara Miller spoke to the board about securing the additional funding needed for construction. The project will cost $968,000, but currently only has $661,395, as of the meeting.

“I just want to thank this board for getting the national historical designation,” she said, referencing that Francestown Commons had joined the National Registry of Historic Places. “It always strengthens a proposal when you’re applying.”

She said they would have more of an idea about the budget in about a month.

Town Clerk Pamela Finnell swore in a new part-time police officer. Peter Zamachaj will join the force and attend the academy beginning August 8.

Also at the meeting, Town Administrator Jamie Pike adressed the budget committee, which will hold a public hearing for budget discussion on February 2.
