Bennington’s Dodge Library in conjunction with the Bennington Police, Bennington Fire Department and the Bennington Garage held the first “Bike Roadeo,” Wednesday at Newhall Field. In an effort to help the town’s children to safely ride the roads the Bike Roadeo allowed children to hear from Bennington’s experts about maintaining a bike, why it is important to ride safely and how to do it. Police Chief Bret Sullivan made sure riders had helmets, Joe MacGregor owner of Bennington Garage checked each bike for proper inflation of tires, a tight chain and handlebars. Fire Chief Mike Roina spoke about why learning to ride well and having a good bike and wearing safely helmets are important. Once the riders had heard all the advice they put it into practice by negotiating an obstacle course of a bridge, turns, staggered cones, and a figure 8. Parents were there to help support their children. All the kids had a great time and learned some valuable lessons about biking.
