A house at 11 Temple Road remains in the town’s hands, after an auction on Thursday failed to result in any bids.

The house is owned by the town, having been tax deeded several years ago, and the interior is in bad disrepair. In an attempt to stimulate buyers, the town decided to sell the 1850-era home and detached garage, along with its .6 acres of land in a no-minimum, no-reserve sale.

The town did require, however, that the home be either rebuilt or refurbished to meet state and local building codes within 18 months of the sale, or else ownership of the building would revert to the town. Rebuilding could be defined as either renovations on the current structure, or tearing it down and constructing a new building.

Two buyers initially showed some interest in the property, according to Town Administrator Joanne Meshna, but when bidding time came around on Thursday afternoon, neither potential bidder made an offer.

Select Board members will likely be discussing their next step concerning the property at an upcoming Select Board meeting, said Meshna. However, the board may enter non-public session to do so, as allowed by RSA when discussing real estate sales or purchases.
