Fire crews responded to Franklin Pierce University on Monday evening following a report of an appliance fire in a campus dormitory.
At 9:21 p.m., firefighters were alerted to an alarm at the Lakeview apartment dormitories, according to Fire Chief Bob Faas. Campus Safety officers arrived first and reported smoke inside the building coming from a laundry unit.
Responders determined the smoke originated from an overfilled washing machine and issued a first alarm.
Crews unplugged and removed the washing machine from the building. Firefighters checked the adjacent wall for any signs of fire extension, finding none. No injuries were reported.
