To the editor:
It was heartening in these tough times to read the report in this newspaper of $45,000 in scholarship awards divided among 12 worthy and needy winners in ConVal High School’s class of 2016. Each year the ConVal Community Scholarship Foundation selects its candidates for awards from among those who demonstrate the best balance between challenges faced and probability of success. Winners are urged to drive to “Face challenges, aim high and achieve.”
This report is unusually newsworthy as 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of this Dollars for Scholars Foundation’s reincarnation. It marks 10 years of healthy and continuing growth in community support and future potential.
As an interested party, I thank and congratulate all those currently serving and who have served in the past on the CVCDFS board and participated in its development.
Most importantly I would remind all that it was such community leaders as Walter Peterson, Richard Verney, Bob Condon, Sue Chollet, Bob Edwards, Katherine Dodge and Adrian Robbins-Cole who provided the extra push and encouragement essential for a strong start.
