The restitution hearing for Aaron E. Olson has once again been delayed.
The hearing was originally scheduled for today (Thursday), but was continued earlier in the week by Judge Landya B. McCafferty. Olson’s attorney, Inga L. Parsons, said in a motion filed Monday that she needed more time to review documents.
“Counsel have conferred as to possible dates and both would be available July 26th, July 29th and the first week of August with the exception of August 2nd,” said Parsons, in her motion. No restitution hearing has been scheduled at this time.
Parsons is Olson’s latest attorney, taking the helm on June 22. Parsons is a Massachusetts attorney, representing Olson pro hac vice, meaning for this occasion only.
This is the ninth time that a motion to continue a hearing has been filed since the beginning of the case in April 2014. All but one has been granted by the judge; the lone exception was a motion Olson withdrew on Feb. 10, 2016.
“I don’t think that this is a delay tactic,” said prosecuting attorney Mark Zuckerman, in an interview Wednesday. “He is currently serving a prison sentence and to my knowledge, he has an attorney working on an appeal.”
Olson is scheduled to have to pay back defrauded investors over $13 million after mixing his investor’s money with his own accounts. Olson had spent $2.6 million for his own use, defrauding investors out of $27.8 million.
Olson was sentenced back in April to five years in federal prison, with an additional three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to four counts of tax fraud. Olson is also ordered to pay a $400 special assessment. He is currently serving out his prison sentence in FMC Devens Correctional Institute.
