“The Lost Bird Project,” a documentary film about five birds driven to extinction and one sculptor’s project to memorialize them, will be shown at the Peterborough Community Theatre on Monday, June 27, at 7 p.m.
This film chronicles the road trip of sculptor Todd McGrain and his brother-in-law Andy Stern, as they seek the locations where five extinct birds were last seen in the wild. McGrain’s project included scouting the locations, creating large bronze sculptures of each of the five extinct birds, and securing permission from residents to install his sculptures in each of the five locations.
The film’s director and editor Deborah Dickson is a three-time Academy Award nominee whose films have been screened at major festivals and on PBS and HBO and Grammy Award winner Christopher Tin composed the score. Todd McGrain is the artist-in-residence at the Lab of Ornithology at Cornell .
This event is free but donations will be gratefully accepted to support Fill the Void, the local initiative to construct the Contoocook Valley Visual and Performing Arts Center, a multi-purpose arts facility for school and community.
