Dublin has a new police chief. They just are not ready to tell you who it is yet.
The announcement is scheduled for the next Board of Selectmen meeting on June 27.
Exiting chief Stephen Sullivan was present to update the board on police business in the town. He will be retired as of the end of July.
While selectmen keep their lips sealed about the new chief, the police will be looking for a new hire in the force.
“Anything we have coming up, we want to not be short-handed,” Sullivan said.
It is possible that the open position within the Dublin police is tied to the new chief being promoted from within, but the board members merely said the announcement has to wait.
Another prominent chunk of the meeting was dedicated to discussion of solar energy use at the Dublin School.
Andy Hungerford, the Dublin School’s building and grounds manager, was present.
He asked the board questions about building permits for solar panels, but they stalled his plans, asking about how the energy will be distributed.
The panels will be installed on land owned by the school but leased to a third party, Norwich Technologies. The board is concerned that this could set a precedent inviting commercial solar electricity producers.
“This is becoming a gray area because you don’t own the equipment, you own the land,” Snitko said.
Eversource will credit the Dublin School for the electricity that the panels add to the grid, but if there is any excess, it could become a profit making operation.
This is especially likely because the school is not used in the summer, the time of year with the greatest solar exposure.
They agreed that Hungerford would check with Norwich Technologies for the protocol, and that the conversation would resume at the selectboard’s July 11 meeting.
