Harvester Market in Greenfield is looking to add another facet to its business: storage space.

Owner Peter Davenport approached the Planning Board Monday with a site plan to add 54 storage units to the basement of the market. The board held a public hearing on the matter, tabling a decision to the next meeting, scheduled for June 27.

“I am hoping that we can come to a final decision pretty early at the next meeting,” said Paul Renaud, board chair. “I will reach out to the Fire Department so they can inspect the basement and give us a written opinion.”

Davenport told the board that the only major change to the building would be the addition of storage space in the basement.

Davenport said that the storage would be similar in nature to what is at the Henniker Harvester Market.

The only concern brought up in a public hearing was whether Harvester would be changing its hours, which is not the case. Customers would only be able to drop off and pick up items during store hours, according to Davenport, and would have to enter through the store.

“The door to the basement would only open from the inside,” said Davenport. “Anyone using the storage facility would have to enter through the main store and check in with an employee.”

Currently, the space is used to store equipment and shelving for the business. Davenport also said there is a small office space.

The Planning Board’s major concern with the project dealt with fire safety concerns. The board decided to get comment from the Fire Department, as the space has a single access.

The board will also discuss waivers at the next scheduled meeting. With the site plan, Davenport is requesting a total of six waivers.
