Alejandro Andres of Peterborough took second place in doubles play at the USTA Men’s 35+ National Tournament in Brunswick, Maine, last week. Andres teamed with Alex Wong of Newton, Massachusetts to advance all the way to the finals before losing to the Colorado-based team of Milos Koprivica  and Robert Kuseski.

This was one of only four major tournaments held around the United States in 2016 to determine National ranking for USTA 35 and older men, and the only one to be held in New England.

Saturday night, after the last of the day’s matches, there was a Lobster Bake at Thomas Point Beach. This event was a great opportunity to show the out-of-state players a bit of Maine beauty, tasty food and Down East hospitality off the courts.  Many of the players had never eaten a whole lobster or participated in the cracking and removing the delicious meat to be dipped in butter.  Word was from the players that lacked expertise in this Maine skill and they needed help from Maine locals, who provided that assistance with a bit of fun laughter and good hearted teasing.
