Familiarity and well-established names won out in New Hampshire’s primary election on Tuesday.
Four-term Congressman Chris Pappas sailed to victory in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, defeating progressive challenger Karishma Manzur, a scientist and peace activist from Exeter. The Associated Press called the race for Pappas around 8 p.m. on election night, and he led Manzur 65% to 32.7% as of Wednesday morning.
On the Republican side, John E. Sununu — who held this seat before Jeanne Shaheen, who’s now retiring — swept a primary against former Massachusetts senator Scott Brown. He led with 68.6% of the vote as of Wednesday morning, compared to Brown’s 26.6%.
In the second congressional district, Democratic incumbent Rep. Maggie Goodlander coasted to a win over progressive challenger Paige Beauchemin, with a 81.6% to 18.3% split as of Wednesday morning. Lily Tang Williams won the Republican nomination with 65.1% of the vote against Victor Orlando and Dan Nicholson.
Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte and Democrat Cinde Warmington both easily clinched their respective parties’ nominations. Warmington ran uncontested.
ANTRIM
In Antrim’s Republican primary, 264 ballots were cast. In the governor’s race, Kelly Ayotte received 236 votes; Shaun Fife, 12, and Bob Wayne McClory, 13.
Antrim voters chose Scott Brown over overall winner John Sununu, with 260 Republican voters supporting Brown. Sununu received with 170 votes; Andy Martin, 2; Mary Maxwell, 1; Richard A. McMenamon II, 0; Sabrina Ann Smith, 7; Tom Alciere, 0; and Sky Danley, 3.
For Representative in Congress, Lily Tang Williams, who won the district, received 182 votes. Michael Anthony Callis got 16 votes; Dan Nicholson, 30; and Victor Orlando, 17.
Dave Wheeler received 216 votes for Executive Councilor and Jim Creighton received 230 votes for State Senator. For State Representatives for Hillsborough District 30, Tim Morehouse received 186 votes, while Larry Baker received 158 votes, and Austin Cottle received 183.
In other unopposed races, Brian Newcomb received 227 votes for Sheriff; John Coughlin received 227 votes for County Attorney; and Christopher Maidment received 219 votes for County Treasurer. Dennis Hogan had 225 votes for Register of Deeds; Ross W. Terrio, 221 votes for Register of Probate; Robert Rowe, 222 votes for County Commissioner. Bob Nash was elected as delegate to the state convention for Hillsborough district with 225 votes.
In Antrim’s Democratic primary, 318 ballots were cast. In the governor’s race, Cinde Warmington, who was unopposed, received 276 votes.
For U.S. Senate, Chris Pappas won Antrim with 187 votes. Maxwell Saal received 0 votes; John Vail, 1; David Jarvis, 5; and Karishma Manzur, 123.
For Representative in Congress, incumbent Maggie Goodlander received 251 votes, while Paige Beauchemin had 63 votes.
In unopposed races, Melanie Levesque received 290 votes for Executive Counselor; David Trumble received 292 votes for State Senator.
In a three-way race for Democratic State Representatives for District 30, Janet McEwen received 261 votes, W. Gordon Allen had 230 votes, and William Bryk had 200 votes.

For the Democratic primary, 295 Dublin voters filled out their ballots. Cinde Warmington won unopposed with 251 votes.
For the U.S. Senate, Chris Pappas won with 169 votes. The challengers were Karishma Manzur, with 117 votes; David Jarvis, with 4 votes; John Vail, with 1 vote; and Maxwell Saal, with 1 vote.
For Representative of Congress, Maggie Goodlander won with 236 votes, defeating Paige Beauchemin, who had 57 votes.

In Mason, Republican Kelly Ayotte and Democrat Cinde Warmington were the selections for governor, with Ayotte receiving 145 votes. Republicans Shaun Fife and Bob Wayne McClory each received a handful of votes, 7 for Fife and 5 for McClory. Warmington received 131.
On the Republican ballot, Lily Tang Willimas received the most support for Congress, with 104. Competitors Michael Anthony Callis received 17 votes, Dan Nicholson 12, and Victor Orlando 21. For the Democratic representative in Congress, Maggie Goodlander received 125 votes, while Paige Beauchemin received 28.
For State Representative seats, John Suiter received 132 votes, and Diane Pauer received 108 on the Republican ballot for the two seats for Hillsborough District 36. On the Democratic ballot, Stephen Spratt received 116, and Michael Pellerito received 117 for the same district. In Hillsborough District 45, Democrat Jerry Roche received 137 votes, and Jack Flanagan received 132.
The remaining races on Tuesday’s ballot were uncontested. Democrat Melanie Levesque received 145 votes for Executive Council, and Republican Dave Wheeler received 137.

Governor Kelly Ayotte led the field in the gubernatorial race, with a total of 461 votes, followed by Shaun Fife with 43, and Bob Wayne McClory with 27.
For Congress, Lily Tang Williams received 387 votes, followed by Dan Nicholson with 57, Victor Orlando with 48, and Michael Anthony Callis with 27.
In uncontested races, Dave Wheeler received 470 votes for Executive Council, Kevin Avard 486 for State Senate, and Brian Newcomb 451 for Sheriff.

For Congress, Lily Tang Williams, who won overall, received 188 votes. Michael Anthony Callis got 20 votes; Dan Nicholson, 74; and Victor Orlando, 48.
In a contested race for Republican candidate for Executive Counselor, Kim Strathdee received 158 votes, and Tobin Menard, 128.
No Republican candidate ran for State Senator. 26 voters wrote in a candidate.
In unopposed races, Brian Newcomb received 309 votes for Sheriff; John Coughlin received 309 votes for County Attorney; and Christopher Maidment received 305 votes for County Treasurer. Governor Kelly Ayotte received 442 votes in the Rindge primary, with fellow Republican candidates Shaun Fife receiving 40 votes and Bob Wayne McClory receiving 21. On the Democratic side, Cinde Warmington received 414.
In a race that had yet to be called Wednesday morning, Chris McLaughlin received 255 votes over David Jenkins with 173 for County Attorney.
Maggie Goodlander received 413 votes for Congress, with Paige Beauchemin receiving 63. On the Republican ballot, Lilly Tang Williams received 355 votes, Victor Orlando 58, Dan Nicholson 37, and Michael Anthony Callis 27.
Democrat Melanie Levesque received 443 votes for Executive Council, and Republican Dave Wheeler received 442.
On the Democratic ballot, in uncontested races, Carryle Roy received 435 votes for state senate; Gene Andersen received 438 votes for State Representative for Cheshire District 14, with two available seats; Rory Lovett Sherman received 376 votes; and Allen Davis received 379. Eli Rivera received 423 votes for sheriff.
