TENNISSingles, doubles tourneys underway

Several local high school tennis players were in action at the NHIAA singles and doubles tournaments this weekend.

Matt Shinn of Wilton-Lyndeborough was the lone boy in singles action after a tremendous regular season for the Warriors. Shinn was knocked off by Prospect Mountainโ€™s Joey Cleary.

Shinn and teammate Duncan Rae were set to face a Keene team in the doubles tournament.

Conant No. 1 Shannon Bennett and WLC No. 1 Maddy Bacon both won their preliminary round games on Saturday, but both lost in the second round โ€” Bacon to Manchester Centralโ€™s Julia Chappell and Bennett to St. Thomasโ€™s Izzy Leonardi.

Bacon was set to team with Tatum Vander-Heyden in the first round of the doubles tournament, where a win would potentially set up a second-round match against Conantโ€™s Alex Dunn and Megan Wheeler.
