The Conant baseball team had plenty to smile about on Wednesday’s senior day rematch with Mascenic, as the Orioles shut out the Vikings for the second time this season.
Conant did their damage early to Mascenic starter Scott Humphrey, with a pair of triples by Kyle Dupuis and Chance Kirby giving the Orioles all the offense they’d need.
Chance and Aiden Kirby drove in two runs each and Quinton Aho drove in two more as Conant won 10-0. James Record pitched for the shutout win.
The Orioles’ celebration was short-lived, however, as they traveled to Bow on Thursday and were handed a 1-0 loss, snapping a 14-game win streak. Chance Kirby was the only Oriole to get a hit off of Falcons’ lefty starter Brendan Winch.
The loss dropped Conant to 14-2, second in Division III, behind Campbell. Campbell’s only loss was to Bow, and Conant’s only losses were to Campbell and Bow. Conant will have a bye before hosting a playoff game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Mascenic finished their regular season at Fall Mountain Friday with an extra-innings, 9-5 win. The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Brandon Heath homer to force extras, but Drew Rines knocked in Roman Ojala in the 10th to take the lead and the Vikings tacked on three more to seal it.
The Vikings finished at 11-7, good for 8th in DIII and a home playoff game Thursday at 4 p.m.
