An eyesore,not an icon

To the editor:

I’ve long wondered how a rusty old oil tank could be a legal sign in Peterborough. And now it seems it is an “icon”!

A business can’t use its trademark orange and pink colors on a building because it offends the aesthetic sensibilities of “Our Town,” but an old oil tank advertising events and promoting political candidates in a field on a major entrance to the town is acceptable, and even iconic?

Where did this tank come from in the first place? Why is it in that field? Did someone leave it there to avoid properly disposing of it? I’m sure Mr. Mike’s has to properly dispose of their old tanks. But, maybe they could just leave one out front to use as a sign.

In my opinion that tank is hardly an icon, but rather an eyesore.
