“It All Comes ’Round Again,” a documentary film offering a  rare glimpse into the origins and music of the British band Fairport Convention, will be screened at the Peterborough Community Theatre on Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m.

The one-night showing is a fundraiser for Fill the Void, a local initiative to build the Contoocook Valley Visual and Performing Arts Center, an arts facility for school and community.

Alternating narrative interviews with full-length musical pieces, the documentary features Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Dave Swarbrick, Simon Nicol, June Tabor, Dave Pegg, and many others.  All of these musicians were pivotal figures in the evolution of British folk rock in the 1960s, and they have all been, at one time or another, members of Fairport Convention, the band that some say ‘invented’ British folk rock.

The film profiles Fairport Convention from its inception in 1967 through its 20th anniversary performance at the Cropredy Music Festival in England in 1987.  At that time, the festival had grown to be the largest music festival in Europe. The film contains rare concert footage and commentary from many who have rotated in and out of the band or others who have enjoyed their music.

What many people don’t know is that the band continues to thrive today, with some core members still enjoying tenure in the group. This summer will be the 36th  year running for the Cropredy festival, now called Fairport’s Cropredy Convention.

This event is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.
