The Monadnock Chorus, under the direction of Matthew Leese, will present a production of J.S. Bach’s “St. John Passion” at the Peterborough Town House May 14 and 15.

The chorus will be accompanied by a professional Baroque orchestra on period instruments, and vocal specialists in baroque style will join the chorus to sing the lead roles in this incredible composition.

Guest artists will be coming from Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Bloomington, Indiana.

Charles Blandy will sing the role of the tenor Evangelist and Nacole Palmerwill appear as soprano soloist. Rudy Girón,countertenor, will perform as the alto soloist, Jacob Cooper, baritone will sing the roles of  Pilate and Peter, and baritone Brian Chu will sing the role of Jesus. 

Marika Holmquist will be the concertmaster.

The chorus is also joined by three SING! participants, Paulina Allen, Austin Davis and Winona Marie Gertler. These young people applied for and were awarded the opportunity to sing with the chorus via the Monadnock Chorus SING! program, which was introduced in fall of 2015 to support youth in our region who wish to perform large choral works at a higher level.

Performances will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Steele’s Stationers and the Toadstool Bookshop or online at www.monadnock-chorus.org.
