The first Saturday contra dance will feature Steve Zakon-Anderson calling with the band Anadama. The dance is Saturday, at the Peterborough Town House.
Caller Steve Zakon-Anderson has been leading contra dances for over 25 years. He has performed at dance camps and festivals from Alaska to Florida. His clear teaching, precise calling, and sense of humor have made him a favorite of dancers of all ages and abilities.
Anadama, a Boston-based contra dance band, is Amelia Mason on fiddle, Emily Troll on accordion, and Bethany Waickman on guitar. The trio finds its roots in the traditional music of New England, Ireland, and Quebec.
From 6 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a special event for those new to contra dancing. Lisa Sieverts will teach easy dances with music by local musicians led by Tad Dreis. The regular dance, which is always beginner-friendly, will begin at 8 p.m.
Admission is $10 and $7 for students and seniors. For more information, call 762-0235 or visit www.monadnockfolk.org.
The Monadnock Folklore Society has presented contra dances and concerts of traditional music since 1982.
