An 11-run explosion in the first inning hoisted the JRMS Cardinals to an 18-3 win in five innings over Hopkinton Hawks at Community Field on Thursday.
The Cardinals scored in the first on a steal of home by Teagan Kirby, an RBI single by Abbie Giles, a walk by Kayla Whitcomb, an RBI single by Bella Hayes, a walk by Chelsea Dupuis, a hit by pitch, an RBI single by Kirby, an RBI single by Kaylee Karnes, and a three-run triple by Silas Bernier.
Karnes racked up three RBIs on three hits.
Lexi Gallagher got the win for the Cardinals. She pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts, two walks, and no hits.
Brooke Holombo allowed three runs over one inning, striking out one, walking three and giving up one hit. Abbie Giles pitched one inning and struck out one batter.
JRMS pushed across three runs in both the third inning and the fourth. In the third, the Cardinals scored on an RBI triple by Karnes, scoring Kirby.
The Cardinals added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Karnes ignited the offense,, bringing home Zoe Boyd. That was followed up by Bernier’s single, plating Kirby.
The girls will be back in action today when they take on the Boynton Bulldogs in New Ipswich at 3:30 p.m.
