The ConVal track and field team competed at the Merrimack Valley Invitational on Saturday, facing over 33 schools and 1,000 athletes.
The boys had a strong day on the track, with multiple top 10 finishes. Senior Dan Kashulines placed 7th in the 400 meter dash, and Dalton Coyne was 5th in the 800 meter run. Kashulines and Dalton teamed up with Daltonโs brothers Dylan and Evan to finish 9th in the 4×400 meter relay. Sophomore Ryan Murray had his best throw ever in the shotput, with a 40โ11โ toss placing him 5th overall.
The girls also had a strong day and found a handful of new athletes qualifying for the DII state championship.
In her first attempt at an open 400 meter dash, Madeline Garland placed 5th, qualifiying provisionally for the state meet. Lucy Freeman cut over 10 seconds off her personal best in the 800 meter run and was also rewarded with a the qualifying standard. Freshman Clare Veverka had a great day, qualifying in the 800 meter run, and lowering her mile best to 5:21.08 while finishing 4th in both events.
Freeman, Veverka, Garland and Rachel Hurley teamed up to run a season best time in the 4×400 meter relay but not before winning the selfie contest sponsored by Runners Alley.
The team heads to Coe-Brown for the Black Bear Invitational next Saturday.
