Fishing derby season begins this Saturday in Bennington. We’ve compiled a list of the area fishing derbys which have been announced. If your town has an upcomng derby, let us know at news@ledgertranscript.com.

The annual Andy Mackenzie Fishing Derby will be held Saturday at Cold Spring Pond on Bible Hill Road in Bennington. Fishing starts at 8 a.m. and is open to Bennington youth ages 15 and under. This is a free event.

The Tim Samuelson Memorial Fishing Derby is set for May 1. The derby is free and open to all Francestown youth under age 16 and their guests under age 16. (Children must be in the company of an adult, however, fishermen and women must be under 16 years old.)

All prizes have been donated by the family of Tim Samuelson. Registration begins at 8 a.m. First cast will be at 9 a.m. at the “Kid’s Pond” — the fire pond behind Main Street.

The 69th Annual Robert C. Heywood Memorial Children’s Fishing Derby is set for June 4 at the Monadnock Rod and Gun Club in Peterborough from 9 a.m. to noon. Open to all area children from 2-15 years of age. Free fishing, free food and drinks, and free prizes for all participants.

The 27th Annual Loran Hanson Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Peterborough Recreation Department, Trout Unlimited and the Peterborough Fly Fishing Club, is scheduled for May 14. It’s free to participants 15 years of age and younger. The child who catches the largest fish wins a grand prize along with the Don Rodenhiser Trophy. Please pick up a copy of the rules at the PRD at 64 Union Street or call the office at 924-8080. The pond will be stocked for this event.

Location is Dubios Horse Farm Pond off of Gulf Road in Peterborough. Derby runs 8 a.m. to noon.
