The Temple Historical Society will celebrate its 75th anniversary Monday night at 7 at the Town Hall on Main Street.
The celebration will be part of the Annual Membership Meeting. President Philip Lauriat will open the meeting with updates on new initiatives and partnerships, especially as they involve Schoolhouse #6.
Henri Vaillancourt is an honored guest. Vaillancourtโs work for more than 40 years has centered around the building and research of the birchbark canoe, making these canoes entirely by hand the way American Indians did.
What started as a hobby grew into a business, and ultimately a mission to record the technologies behind this unique and remarkable watercraft type.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Henri and his associate Todd Crocker conducted numerous trips into remote northern Quebec to research not only canoe building, but other technologies such as snowshoe making, hide tanning, the manufacture of skin clothing, tools, and other items of Native material culture.
Refreshments will be served. All are welcome to join in the festivities this celebration is open to members and non-members alike.
The Temple Historical Societyโs mission revolves around keeping Templeโs history alive through various events, exhibits, and educational programs where everyone of all ages can participate. The Society is a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization.
