There is a new branch to the Town Library, freshly built and installed at Adams Playground on Union Street.

The “Little Library” is roughly 2 by 2 feet, contains books for children of all ages, and is governed by an honor system. The goal is to spread the love of reading by supporting a free book exchange that builds a sense of community.

“We are thrilled to begin this new program. It was created by many hands and was truly a multigenerational project. We hope it creates a little magic for the kids, knowing they can run up and grab a new book, and maybe donate one the next time they stop by the playground, ” said Library Director Corinne Chronopoulos.

All of the materials for the Little Library were donated by David Blake, a member of the 1833 Society.

The library was assembled by Margot Close and Alan Wilder in the RiverMead wood shop. From there it was given to Tina and Greg Kriebel, who painted it as a family project with their sons Ben and Zack. Next, Jeff King, the director of the Parks and Recreation Department, asked his team to install it at Adams Playground.

The team, led by Roland Patten, even contacted the Kriebel family so they could paint the post with their leftover paint. From start to finish, the project was a community collaboration.
