The Franklin Pierce University men’s lacrosse team put up seven unanswered goals in the second half, but the surge was not enough to come back from a first half deficit, and the Ravens fell to Saint Anselm, 11-9, on Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Grappone Stadium.
With the loss, the Ravens record falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Hawks advance their perfect record 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast-10.
Ravens sophomore goalkeeper Connor Wacksman took the loss on the day, with his record dropping to 3-2 after facing 22 shots on goal and making 11 saves on the day.
In the first quarter, Franklin Pierce stayed silent as the Hawks took the lead by scoring five goals. Junior midfielder Mark Vitello had two goals on the quarter, leading to a 5-0 lead for Saint Anselm entering the second quarter.
The Ravens tallied two goals in the second quarter, as both sophomore attack Jack Carney and sophomore midfielder Sean Delea connected to put Franklin Pierce on the board going into the second half, though still trailing, 8-2.
Leading the Ravens on Tuesday was Carney with three goals and one assist, along with Castorf, who had two goals and four assists.
As a team, Ravens took 40 shots, won 14 faceoffs, made 16-of-23 clears, collected 29 ground balls and caused seven turnovers.
