With this year’s general election approaching, we as Americans have a choice to make. This is a difficult decision for many. Who will fix our economy? Who will defeat ISIS? Who will uphold our rights and fight for them?
This year’s election is like no other. As a conservative Republican, things are not looking good. The GOP is in a tough spot. With Trump gaining speed, and stacking up delegates, it looks as though he will get the nomination. This could be good or very bad. In my opinion, Trump seems to have a lot of good ideas. He’s just not very good at communicating them to the people. I do believe that he could enact some real change for our country, but he’s not my first choice, just because of his methods. We need a president who will unite the country.
Ted Cruz is my personal choice. He has real experience in our governmental system. Before becoming a senator, he argued many cases in front of the Supreme Court. A good deal of these were landmark cases and he was on the winning side. He’s a constitutionalist who is willing to fight to bring America back to our core values. He’s the one who will make America great again. But it wouldn’t be an easy win. Trailing behind Trump by a good deal, it’s unlikely he will even receive the nomination. And if by some miracle he did, Trump would most likely run as an independent. This would split the votes and not end well for the Republicans.
On the Democratic side, I personally don’t see much potential. With either candidate. I just don’t see democratic socialism working out well for America. Don’t get me wrong, our economy definitely needs some work, but I don’t see that as a valid solution. There’s no such thing as a free meal. If everybody starts getting everything for free, who will want to work?
Our values are slipping, and it’s all downhill from here. And Hillary is another story. Yeah, she may be the most qualified and, with her lead, she may become the first woman president. That’s a big breakthrough. Except I don’t think someone who’s under investigation by the FBI should even be allowed to run. She flip flops all over the place, and has been caught in many lies. I don’t know about you, but that’s not someone who I want running our country.
As I said before, we need a president who will unite Americans. These days, everything’s a battle. Candidates are at each others’ throats, always trying to find dirt on the others. The parties are getting farther and farther apart. This isn’t how it should be. There needs to be more compromise, and teamwork.
For most, choosing a candidate consists of deciding which is the least worst. It shouldn’t be like that. This election will change America forever. Whether it’s good or bad, only time will tell.
