On Saturday, several Sharon residents, along with scouts from Troop 3877 worked together in the South Burying Ground on Jarmany Hill Road, clearing brush, debris and small trees.
The event was organized by the Sharon Cemetery Trustees and included scouts from New Ipswich, Peterborough and Sharon.
“This was a wonderful community effort by over 20 volunteers,” said Cemetery Trustee Rich Dufresne.
The clean-up included uncovering many old gravesites as well as a memorial marker from a soldier who fought in the War of 1812.
Following the workday, volunteers were invited to the Sharon Meeting House by the Sharing in Sharon Committee for refreshments and a presentation by Sharon residents Rick Lusky and Jack Ogren, who have done extensive research and mapping of the cemetery.
