The Jaffrey Civic Center will present โBorn of Silence: Artists Who Meditate,โ a group exhibition featuring painting, sculpture and mixed media by artists whose creative practices are rooted in meditation.
The show runs through Sept. 18 at the Cunningham Gallery, 40 Main St., Jaffrey.
Curated by local artist Joan Hanley, the exhibit features work by artists from the United States, Canada and Europe, many of whom connected through residencies in Maine, Ireland and New Mexico or the online art and yoga community. Each artist shares a process grounded in mindfulness and solitude.
The exhibit includes work by Shawn Dulaney, whose paintings have appeared on the cover of Architectural Digest and been reviewed in ArtNews and The New York Times; Keri Straka, a Framingham State University professor known for ceramic and fabric sculpture; and Patricia Sullivan, a psychologist whose paintings explore the symbolic realm of dreams.
Environmental themes appear in the work of Coleen Davidson, Laura Clark and Elizabeth Kelley. A charcoal-based installation by Lisa Lenox and natural-material abstractions by Jill Goldman-Callahan are also featured.
At the gallery entrance, visitors will encounter an installation by New York artist Stephanie Joyce, who describes her work as โmy offeringโ to bring the sacred into daily life.
A related poetry reading by Patrice Pinette, author of โHappiness, a Strange Bird,โ will take place Saturday, Sept. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. For information, call 603-532-6527 or visit jaffreyciviccenter.com.
