Alfred Hitchcock’s 1927 silent drama “The Ring” will be shown with live musical accompaniment Sunday, July 20 at 2 p.m. at the Wilton Town Hall Theatre, 40 Main St., Wilton.
The screening is part of the theater’s summer silent film boxing series. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10.
Set in the world of English carnivals and boxing tents, “The Ring” follows two fighters competing for the same woman’s affection. It’s the only film Hitchcock wrote from an original screenplay. He directed it at age 28 while working in Great Britain.
Live music will be provided by Jeff Rapsis, a New Hampshire-based silent film accompanist.
Boxing was one of the most popular sports of the silent era, and films about the ring reflected its cultural reach. The silent boxing series concludes Sunday, Aug. 24 with Buster Keaton’s “Battling Butler.”
The Wilton Town Hall Theatre has operated since 1912 and continues to present monthly silent film screenings with live accompaniment.
