A day after a furious third-period comeback for a tie, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team found itself in a hole it could not begin to climb out of on Friday afternoon, falling 8-2 to Connecticut College in the consolation round of the 52nd Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament, hosted by Massachusetts Boston. Senior forward Ryan Mowery scored three times and added an assist to lead the way for Connecticut College, which went 5-for-10 on the power play on the day at Barry Ice Rink.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-8-1, while Connecticut College improves to 2-7-1. The Camels enjoyed a 42-20 advantage in shots on goal on the afternoon.

On Friday, Connecticut College poured in three first-period goals and never looked back en route to their victory by a half-dozen goals.

Franklin Pierce got on the board at the 8:22 mark of the second period, as the two teams traded goals in the middle frame. Sophomore defenseman Jack Williams tallied his first goal of the season, while senior forward Connor Mauro and senior defenseman Taylor Fletcher provided the assists.

Senior goaltender Tom McGuckin played just the first period in net for Franklin Pierce, and took the loss (6-8-1) after surrendering three goals on 19 shots. He gave way to fellow senior Austin Christopher, who made 18 saves against 23 shots the rest of the way. At the other end of the ice, freshman netminder Avery Gobbo (1-2-1) made 18 stops against 20 shots to pick up the win for Connecticut College.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 6, when they travel to Assumption for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 5:35 p.m. at Buffone Rink in Worcester, Mass.
