To the editor:
In response to a item from Steve Riggs’s recent letter to the editor and to avoid any misinformation or speculation about things that are not covered in the Ledger-Transcript, I need to let everyone know what is going on at Village Mobil in New Ipswich.
It is not a coffer dam. It is shoring put in place to protect the laborers from collapse when the new tanks are installed.
Yes there is pollution at the site; it has been monitored as per the N.H. DES. since before I owed the property. For the past many years I’ve watched the pollution levels in the biannual reports creep down.
In July, when we shut the pumps down, the DES was there, the ground was opened up and the tanks and plumbing removed. There was no new contamination.
The good news is while the site is being upgraded (new tanks and pumps) the state will be remediating, and has approved the removal of 300 tons of contaminated dirt. The bad news is it’s going to get worse before it gets better. This takes time and has not gone as smoothly as I hoped.
As the local operator since 1984 and owners since 1997, nobody wants this completed more than my wife Rhonda and I.
Please bear with us; our family has enjoyed being a part of New Ipswich community and wants to continue. Yes, the service bays will remain open; we have two great mechanics, Doug and Matt.
