To the editor:
I was running some errands in downtown Jaffrey yesterday when I noticed our town manager, John Frederick, and the fire chief, Dave Chamberlain, doing something under the flag pole. I went over to say hi and see what was up. Sure enough, they were repairing the rope that is used to hoist the flag. It turns out the rope had gotten tangled due to fraying and these two had decided to fix it.
It was heartening to see what a wonderful job John Frederick had done splicing the rope ends together and the teamwork of the two of them putting it right. I remembered that John had been in the coast guard and therefore knows his knots. We are a lucky town to have such dedicated people working to keep things in shape.ย
