Road Agent Kent Perry spoke at the Lyndeborough Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Oct. 26 to update the board on the highway department’s plans as winter comes nearer.
The department has planned its winter snow removal routes, and hopes the school district makes it easier to communicate and clear routes for buses.
“If school gets canceled, that makes it a lot easier,” he said. “Because, when those buses get out there and you have to stay to those routes, it can be hard to get out to help the people who live out there or on the mountain.”
Lyndeborough will have four full-time drivers for plows when the time comes for snow removal. Additionally, there will be one part-time driver.
To improve accountability, each driver will be associated with a truck, making it easier for the department to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of each driver plowing his routes.
“We really should know who’s doing it,” Selectman Fred Douglas said..
Perry also updated the board on the Mountain Road project, which board members said last week they hope will be completed by Nov. 18.
Drainage culverts and ditches are currently being worked on. Culverts will be examined by an engineer in the coming weeks. Ditches are being installed one foot from the road.
The board also acknowledged the need to budget for hydroseed next year to grow grass near the road where work has been done.
As Chairman Lee Mayhew said, “We’re getting there.”
