Jaffrey Democrats Committee Chair Paul Robb recently presented the Jaffrey Food Bank with a $500 check.

In expressing her thanks, Jaffrey Food Bank Director Kathleen LaRou said, “The number of folks using the food bank has been averaging about 80 per week, but the number is climbing, especially among the elderly.”

The food bank is located at the United Church in Jaffrey and is open Wendesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Jaffrey Democrats is an organization initially begun by Jaffrey native Kevin Hampsey, the late Tuck Gilbert and his wife Bobby Gilbert of Peterborough and the late Sandy and Nancy Isaac in 2003. There are currently about 150 members.

The group’s mission includes restoring responsible government, working toward a secure future, demonstrating compassion toward others such as through assisting the elderly and helping protect the environment by participating in a quarterly cleanup of a 2 1/2-mile stretch of Route 124 from Jaffrey Center.

Monthly meetings of the Jaffrey Democrats are held in the Community Hall at the First Church in Jaffrey Center. The full schedule can be found on the Jaffrey Democrats’ Facebook page. All registered Democrats and independents are invited to attend.
