The last time the Mascenic softball team went on a seven-game win streak, the Vikings saw it snapped on the road against three-time defending champion Campbell. Mascenic will try to avoid that same fate Monday afternoon, as the No. 4 Vikings host the No. 5 Cougars in the quarterfinal round of the NHIAA Division III playoffs.
The Vikings, winners of seven in a row on a streak that began with their walkoff win over Conant, beat No. 13 Gilford 5-3 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals.
Starter Maddie Labrie struck out 13 in the game and drove in a run. Senior Casey Wayrynen went 3-3 with a double, a triple, a stolen base and an RBI. Jordyn Babin tripled home a run.
Now 14-3, Campbell knocked off Winnisquam on Thursday 2-1 on a walkoff single by Olivia Garand.
Garand did nearly the same thing to Mascenic back on May 11, when Campbell entered the bottom of the sixth down 1-0 before scoring twice to win the game. Garand knocked in the winning run on a single.
