Much thanks toDublin firefighters

To the editor:

A very big “thank you” to the Dublin Fire Department! On Friday, April 29, I foolishly left a container of ash on the ground near my woods, as I have from time to time over the past 20 years. Soon after, I left to go to work. My complacency nearly cost me my home.

Thanks to Chief Vanderbilt and his keen instinct for investigating smoke — which, lucky for us, he just happened to spot — my family still has a home. The heat of the ash container had generated a fire that had quickly spread into the woods.

It was amazing how much scorched earth I came home to — almost the size of football field. If the wind had changed direction and blown toward my house, we would have lost everything. So to the Dublin Fire Department, we offer our most sincere thanks.
