A driver whose vehicle was partially dangling off an embankment along Fitzwilliam Road in Jaffrey was hauled to safety by crews Wednesday afternoon.
Jaffrey Fire Chief David Chamberlain said that crews were dispatched to the call around 12:07 p.m.
Chamberlain said the incident was likely caused while the elderly woman, who was driving, attempted to turn around. The maneuver caused the back end of the woman’s vehicle to hang over the embankment with a drop of about 15 feet down to a small stream.
He said crews were able to assist the woman out of the vehicle and then pulled the vehicle off the embankment using a fire rescue vehicle.
The woman was uninjured and was able to drive the vehicle away from the scene, Chamberlain said.
He said traffic along the road was closed off for about 10 minutes while crews worked.
By about 12:45 p.m., crews had cleared out of the area. All that was left after crews left were deep tire marks in the sand on the side of the road.
