A 22-year-old man was charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest after crashing into the roundabout near the Shaw’s supermarket on Route 101 in Peterborough on Monday evening.
Hassen Hedlund-Mediouni, a resident of Lowell, Massachusetts, was traveling westbound on Dublin Road (Route 101) at “extremely high speeds” and veering into the no-pass zone before crashing into the roundabout, according to Peterborough Police Chief Scott Guinard. Police and fire and rescue crews were dispatched at approximately 5:20 p.m.
After crashing into the roundabout, Hedlund-Mediouni fled the vehicle, Guinard said, and officers arrived to find him hiding in the shrubs behind Shaw’s, Guinard said. Police closed Route 101 until the car was towed.
Guinard said Hedlund-Mediouni was transported to a local hospital for treatment and arrested there.
Hedlund-Mediouni faces charges of reckless driving, conduct after an accident, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, criminal mischief for damaging the roundabout, possession of alcohol and marijuana, speeding and improper equipment.
His case will be presented at the Jaffrey Peterborough District Court on Oct. 29.
