Vote ‘no’ on Question 2
I urge my fellow Granite Staters to reject Question 2 on the midterm ballot and elect statehouse reps who will work on real solutions to education and tax issues. This “school tax cap” is a confusing proposal that relies on unclear formulas and a cost allocation that will further constrain any potential solutions to our property tax problem.
I consider myself a well-informed resident and voter in the ConVal school district, and I have yet to hear a good explanation of what this bill is intended to accomplish and how. This lack of clarity can only mean one of two things – either the writers of the legislation don’t know what its impact would be, or they don’t want us to know. In either case, our property tax burden is too important an issue to grasp at unserious proposals with unintended consequences.
This so-called school tax cap will only add to the mess of restrictions and regulation that already constrain our educators, and further degrade our schools. Our property values depend to a great extent on the quality of our schools. Let’s not confuse rigid formulas with sound educational policy.
Vote ‘no’ on Question 2, and vote for Allen Davis, Rory Lovett, and Tom Ahlborn-Hsu to represent us in the legislature and work on sensible solutions to the important issues on Granite Staters’ minds.
