Gorham, ME – On June 6th, 2026, Stephen Michael Fontaine passed away of lung cancer at his home in Gorham, Maine. His loving wife of 21 years, Diane, was by his side.
Stephen was born in Peterborough, NH, on February 14th, 1947, the only child of Barbara Emily Hood of Beverly, MA and Milton Lawrence Fontaine of Peterborough. After graduating at the top of his class at Peterborough High School, he served in the Army during Vietnam and then went on to graduate from UNH.
He then worked at Fontaine Ford Sales before deciding to follow his dream of working in the railroad industry. He left Peterborough and started in management with the Boston and Maine Railroad. His last stop was running the Massachusetts Central Railroad.
He later moved to Gorham, Maine with his wife Diane, where he volunteered at the Seashore Trolley Museum in his retirement.
He leaves behind two children, Marguerite and Nathaniel Fontaine.
