The Jaffrey Civic Center spring art show will run through April 8, with a reception scheduled for Saturday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m.
This year’s show includes 62 artists, with art in a variety of styles and mediums. The exhibit will take place both in the Auditorium Gallery and in the Cunningham Gallery at the Jaffrey Civic Center, 40 Main St., because of the number of pieces.
“The JCC Spring Show is a unique opportunity for artists of all levels to exhibit together,” stated center Executive Director Rebecca Fredrickson. “There is no jurying or theme for the show, so anything that an artist wants to exhibit is eligible. It is always exciting to see the variety of work that we get for this exhibit; there is truly something for everyone.”
Jaffrey resident Jay Mercado has three works of art in the show, including “Dream,” which he stated “represents a longing. There is a suspended hovering above the space between and a patient awaiting resting in the sea below. This artwork is one in a series of paintings where I have married the majestic and timeless solidity of an ancient coastal rock to the luscious fragility of a fruitful offering. Their shared beauty exists briefly except in a dream. Participating in the spring exhibition is a gift and essential to me, given that not only am I a new resident to this great town, but also my ideas regarding spring have bloomed by being here. Watching it unveil feeds the imagination and creative soul.”
