The Beals Memorial Library in Winchendon, Mass., has opened submissions for its seventh annual Beals Prize for Poetry, a free-to-enter contest offering cash prizes for local writers.

The free contest is open to poets age 18 and older living in Massachusetts or the New Hampshire towns of Keene, Swanzey, Richmond, Fitzwilliam, Troy, Marlborough, Dublin, Peterborough, Jaffrey, Rindge, New Ipswich, Greenville, and Sharon. Entrants may submit one original, unpublished poem to bealspoetryprize@gmail.com. Past first-place winners are ineligible.

Judges will select 10 finalists to read their work at a September 24 awards presentation, where the top three writers will win cash prizes of $250, $100, and $50. Finalists will be notified by September 11.

More information is available at bealslibrary.org or by calling 978-297-0300.
