Local News Day
Local News Day

Today, April 9, is Local News Day, a national day of action to celebrate and sustain the community-based journalism that keeps our towns informed, connected and accountable.

As a founding partner of this movement, we don’t take the occasion lightly.

At the Ledger-Transcript, we show up to Select Board meetings, to school board sessions, to ribbon cuttings, memorials and the stories in between that remind us who we are as a community.

That work doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because readers โ€” like you โ€” believe it matters.

Local journalism is not a relic. It is the last line of defense between a community and silence. It is an essential part of a healthy democracy. And the stories we tell are not small; they are the record of where we have been and where we are going.

What we are asking you to do today is simple: share our stories. Forward this editorial to a friend, a neighbor or a family member who wants to know what’s happening in their own backyard. Encourage them to pick up the paper or read us online. A subscription provides access to and funds our reporting. Send them a link to sign up for our free newsletters.

If you are already a subscriber, thank you. Every reader keeps our work alive in our corner of New Hampshire. If you want to further support local news, you can make a tax-deductible donation that we will use to support and expand our news efforts.

We are grateful to cover this community, and we are even more grateful that you read and support us.

Thank you for helping us grow.
