Vote for Melanie Levesque
What do the $87 million ballooning Education Freedom Account program, access to healthcare and family planning, and a passenger rail that would have helped commuters avoid an I-93 parking lot have in common? The Executive Council makes the final decision on their funding.
The Executive Council is very powerful in a quiet way. The council approves most state spending with almost no public attention. That’s billions of dollars a year in how New Hampshire spends federal and state funds.
District 5 Councilman David Wheeler’s votes ushered in the Education Freedom Accounts, which take millions of public tax dollars to pay for private education, primarily in wealthier communities. He has repeatedly voted against family planning contracts that fund healthcare, contraception, and cancer screenings for many people who don’t have private insurance. And he voted to terminate the $5.5 million engineering and financial study on restoring commuter rail service after most of the work was complete, declaring it time to “pull the plug.” Life is hard and expensive for most of us in New Hampshire, and Dave Wheeler’s votes make it even harder and more expensive.
It’s time for a new District 5 Executive Councilor. I’m supporting Melanie Levesque. As a state representative, she has a track record that includes supporting public education, affordable healthcare, reproductive rights, and public transit. She is dedicated to being transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people. Join me: melaniefornh.com.
