Small correction for a small organism

As a former microbiologist, I would like to correct a mislabeled organism. In her article “MCH preps for cyclospora cases,” Kiera McLaughlin repeatedly refers to cyclospora as a virus. Cyclospora is, in fact, a protozoan, a single-cell organism with a nucleus. The organism is small, but unlike viruses, can be seen after a staining procedure with a standard laboratory microscope. Unfortunately for us but fortunately for most other animals, including our pets, Cyclospora has a strong preference for our intestines. Antivirals would be ineffective in treatment, but there are antibiotics that are very effective.
