Voting rights advocates will host the 16th annual Granny D Memorial Walk and fourth Democracy Festival on Saturday, Aug. 1, honoring late political activist Doris “Granny D” Haddock.
The event commemorates Haddock’s famous cross-country walk at age 89 to advocate for campaign finance reform.
The 6.2-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. near Haddock’s former home on Cobb Meadow Road in Dublin and concludes around noon at Depot Square in Peterborough for lunch and festival activities. Organizers will provide shuttle buses from the Riverwalk parking area at 48 Grove St. in Peterborough to the starting line, with shuttles running between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.
Participants unable to complete the full distance can join along the route at designated stops, including the Green Grocer around 10:45 a.m. and Adams Playground around 11:30 a.m. Walkers are encouraged to bring water bottles for refill stations and sign waivers ahead of time to streamline morning check-in.
