Marlborough, NH – Alan Michael Hendrickson, lovingly known as “Al,” passed away unexpectedly on July 11, 2026, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, following a sudden illness. He was 67 years old.
Born on December 30, 1958, in Keene, New Hampshire, Alan was the son of the late Ralph Andrew and Eleanor Eileen (Hiiva) Hendrickson. Raised in Marlborough as one of seven children, Alan spent his entire life in the community he loved and proudly called home.
Alan graduated as Valedictorian of Marlborough High School. In a gesture that perfectly reflected his humble and generous spirit, he graciously stepped aside so the Salutatorian could deliver the commencement address-a story his family never tired of telling and one that beautifully captured the quiet kindness that defined him throughout his life.
Although reserved in his younger years, Alan blossomed into a warm, witty, and outgoing man whose gentle nature and infectious sense of humor drew people to him. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, and loyal friend. Those fortunate enough to know him will remember his kindness, his willingness to lend a hand, and his ability to make others smile with his quick wit and easy laugh.
Alan embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. A gifted mechanic and lifelong tinkerer, he always had several projects underway-some of which, to the amusement of family and friends, he actually finished. He earned his pilot’s license and delighted in flying over the Monadnock region from Keene Airport. One of his greatest dreams was building his own airplane, a project that reflected both his ingenuity and determination.
He found joy in the outdoors, whether hunting, working on his property, creating a pond, excavating with heavy equipment, restoring vehicles, or spending time in his workshop. Alan was an avid Boston Celtics fan and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, often sharing the experience with his beloved Alaskan Husky. He also had a special place in his heart for dogs, especially his faithful Golden Retriever, Chance, whose companionship brought him immense happiness.
Following high school, Alan worked at Pete’s Cycle Shop and Arthur Whitcomb’s as a mechanic before beginning a long career at Markem-Image, where he remained until his retirement. Throughout his working years, he earned the respect of coworkers through his skill, dedication, and unwavering work ethic.
Alan is survived by his siblings, Gary Hendrickson and his wife, Karolee, of Marlborough; Mark Hendrickson of Marlborough; Linda Coughlan of Hancock; Cindy Day of Keene; and Karen Longever and her husband, Dana, of Keene. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Heath Hendrickson and his wife, Liz, of Jaffrey; Heidi Wilson and her husband, Hank, of Gilsum; Nate Hendrickson and his wife, Angie, of Marlborough; Shawn Coughlan of Acworth; Melanie Ferry and her husband, Marshall, of Brookline; Sarah Clark of Keene; Nicole Beval and her husband, Mark, of Swanzey; and Heather Wallace and her husband, Jeff, of Nashville, Tennessee. He also leaves behind many cherished great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Andrew Hendrickson Jr.; his brother-in-law, Edward Coughlan Jr.; his grandparents; and many beloved aunts and uncles.
Alan’s legacy is one of quiet generosity, steadfast loyalty, and genuine kindness. Whether soaring above the Monadnock hills, working with his hands, enjoying the company of his dogs, or sharing laughter with family and friends, he lived a life filled with purpose, humility, and love. His presence leaves an irreplaceable void, but his memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided Alan and their support during his final days.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at a later date. In the meantime, those who knew and loved him are encouraged to honor his memory by sharing stories, offering a helping hand to someone in need, and embracing life with the same quiet generosity that Alan demonstrated every day.
