Local author Jeremy J. Smith has been named the winner of Tertulia’s First Page Thriller Contest for his novel, “Blood Money.”

The national competition challenged writers to hook readers using only an opening page. Smith’s winning entry, an urban thriller set against the backdrop of his hometown of Brownsville, Brooklyn, blends crime, suspense, and supernatural elements.

Smith, who lives in Keene and works as a parts manager at Quality Care Collision, wrote the novel in his off-hours while building his independent press, Smitty’s House Publishing.

To celebrate the contest win, Smith will hold a book signing at 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at The Toadstool Bookshop in Keene. Readers can meet the author, discuss the series, and purchase signed copies.
